The Beauty Bowl

fruit breakfast beauty bowl with blueberries coconut and pomegranate seeds

Here we are, my first blog post! I figured we should start the blog the way I start my day- with breakfast.

I’m not one to eat breakfast the minute I wake up. I start my mornings with warm water with lemon in order to gently wake up my digestive system get things moving. While I don’t recommend waiting more than 2 hours from the time you wake up, let yourself get a little hungry. So many of us have become used to eating at specified meal times that we forgot how to listen to our bodies. That being said, waiting too long will cause your energy stores to fall, metabolism to slow down, and most likely result in overeating later in the day when your body tries to compensate.

The ideal breakfast includes protein, fiber, and a healthy fat. In this case, you’re getting protein from the protein powder, healthy fats from the chia seeds and fiber from the fruit. While I was interning for celebrity nutritionist, Tanya Zuckerbrot, she would tell her  clients “eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, dinner like a pauper”. The idea is that you have the full day after breakfast to burn off those calories, while after dinner most of us head straight to the couch or into bed. If you’re thinking that you do the exact opposite, you are not alone. So many people make the mistake of barely eating during the day and going completely overboard at dinner time. They are then left wondering why they feel bloated and groggy in the morning. It's time to change that cycle! Start your day with a nourishing and balanced breakfast to fuel your busy day. You will find you have fewer cravings and more stable energy.

This isn’t just called the beauty bowl because it looks pretty! The berries and pomegranates are full of antioxidants and collagen boosting vitamin C that will help your skin stay glowing and youthful. Besides drinking at least 3 liters of water per day, eating high water content foods, like berries, keeps your skin from getting that dull, dehydrated look. I sprinkle bee pollen on just about anything I can. This superfood will get a whole post to itself but just a few of its benefits are that it helps reduce inflammation, boosts the immune system, and protects against allergies.

Make your mornings a little brighter with my beauty bowl.  And hey, it makes a pretty Instagram post as well, and that’s what really matters, right??
